Money and Medal-Making in the history of Slovakia

Slovakia’s premier exhibition of numismatics and medal making opened in 2003 after renovation. It is housed in a burgher’s house with Gothic origins on the historic main square in Kremnica. It leads visitors through the history and development of money in Slovakia from the earliest times to present-day coins and banknotes alongside an equally comprehensive treatment of the history of medal-making, often accompanied by unique exhibits. The exhibition also includes sections on the history of Kremnica as a town, its great mining and metal-working traditions and the one-of-a-kind mint, which has functioned continuously for nearly 700 years.

The museum received the prestigious Museum of the Year award when the exhibition opened in 2003.
